The Versatile Choice – Indoor / Outdoor Cushions

Let me tell you a story.

It was the first day of my holidays (back a few years ago when I was single and free) and my friend had offered me their holiday house down the coast for 2 whole weeks where I could come and go as I please, relax and enjoy some peace and quiet.

I was so excited to just spend some time out by the pool on the sun lounge, reading my new book and catching up on some gossip from some trashy magazines when I decided to increase my comfort level and take a few cushions outside too.

I had a lovely day and as I mixed a few cocktails, then that afternoon it suddenly started pouring with rain! Oh no! I’d left the cushions outside! Oh well. I’ll just hang them out to dry tomorrow, no problem…

Tomorrow it rained. The next day it rained. The day after that it also rained. Great Holiday! I hadn’t bothered to get the cushions in for a few days. What am I supposed to do with wet cushions anyway…. Put them on the line… Yep, so I did that. ‘Round the back in the sun. They’ll dry in no time, if the sun ever comes out again!

So almost 2 weeks went by. I forgot about the cushions on the line. it rained nearly every night, but the sun did come out every day of my last week at the holiday house. On the last day, as I packed up ready to leave, I remembered the cushions I had left out on the line out the back.

Good, they were dry, lucky hey! But as I un-pegged the first one, I could see fade marks from underneath the peg. Oh dear – Major fading had occurred!

I took the second one down, I noticed mildew starting to spot in the corners – GROSS! They were ruined. My friend is going to kill me!

What should I do now? There were only 2 options – Buy her some beautiful new cushions that she’ll love! or go into witness protection.

I chose to buy her some new indoor/outdoor cushions. Soft enough to use indoors but triple treated to resist sun, rain and mildew.

Problem solved and friendship saved.

When trying to teach me value for money, my Dad always said:

“If you pay a little more now, you may lose a little, but pay too little now and you may lose the lot”

This can be said for spending a bit more money on buying good quality outdoor cushions now, so you don’t risk losing the lot by having to throw out ruined indoor cushions that have gone mildewy and faded in 2 weeks time.

It just makes good sense.

Thanks Dad xx
